Therapy Services

Hot take: Everyone can benefit from therapy.

I spent years of my life wanting to hide my feelings of depression and anxiety from the people around me because of the stigma surrounding mental health—particularly as a second-generation Chinese Canadian woman. But once I began to accept these feelings and embrace them as part of the human experience, I was able to embark on a (life-long) journey of healing.

When I discovered first-hand how transformative therapy can be, I decided I wanted to work with other individuals in assisting them with their mental health struggles.

As a therapist, I’m here to share space with you, help you feel seen and heard, and guide you to get curious about your feelings, where they come from and how they are impacting your every day life. I work from a client-centred, holistic and resource-oriented approach, incorporating elements from various psychotherapeutic techniques. As I am trained in music psychotherapy, you have the option of incorporating music into any of your sessions.

Though I have worked with a wide range of populations (including children, teens, adults and seniors) in various settings (palliative care, hospice, grief and bereavement groups, etc.), my real passion lies in working with Asian women looking to work through racial and intergenerational trauma and/or currently struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, career, cross-cultural issues, family conflicts, relationships and self-worth.

I strongly believe that every person has an innate ability to actualize their own potential for their health and well-being, and my goal as a therapist is to help you realize this potential and work with you in a collaborative manner, nurture your strengths and resources, and help you achieve your goals.

  • According to the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (2020), psychotherapy is primarily a talk-based therapy and is intended to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being. Registered Psychotherapists work with individuals, couples and families in individual and group settings.

Psychotherapy occurs when the Registered Psychotherapist (RP) and client enter into a psychotherapeutic relationship where both work together to bring about positive change in the client’s thinking, feeling, behaviour and social functioning. Individuals usually seek psychotherapy when they have thoughts, feelings, moods and behaviours that are adversely affecting their day-to-day lives, relationships and the ability to enjoy life.

  • Music Psychotherapy involves the issues being presented by the client being accessed, worked through and resolved using a combination of music experiences and verbal dialogue. Music experiences may involve listening to music, songwriting and actively making music.

  • The length of treatment varies per individual, depending on their goals and history. Typically, we’ll spend the first few sessions getting to know each other and developing a treatment plan. Research suggests most individuals will be in therapy for approximately 12-20 sessions to achieve their goals. However, some individuals may need fewer sessions if they’re looking to treat a specific, shorter-term problem, while others may require more sessions if they have multiple issues or want to understand and change lifelong patterns.

  • As each insurance policy differs, you will need to check with your provider on whether or not you are eligible for psychotherapy coverage from a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying). I do not direct bill to health insurance providers, but can provide you with a receipt that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
